Have you tried Farm & Oven Bakery Bites? Tell me what you think of them.
I kept seeing them on my Instagram so I requested a sample and they very kindly obliged. I am not under any obligation to write this review or share my thoughts.
They are veggie based baked goods and come in four flavors that are fiber rich (because of the veggies) as well as have probiotics (good bacteria) infused into them. A serving is 3 bite sized goodies with 5-6g of fiber and 40% of your daily vegetable recommendation. That means each serving has 1 cup of veggies in it. The current USDA recommendations are 2.5 cups of veggies a day (or 5 half cup servings) for the average adult while some studies (and other countries) have vegetable recommendations of up to 10 servings a day. So basically, we need to eat more veggies.
I like how they tell us where their ingredients come from and how the ingredient list is relatively short and a few vegetables make there way into it. I especially appreciated the serving size. The bites took me two bites to eat and the fact that it is 3 pieces helped increase mindfulness because you have to look at it to pick up the next bite as opposed to a bar or big cookie.
So what did I think overall?
I enjoyed the concept. I love the idea of making veggies more accessible to the population and if one can supplement their intake in a fun way – why not! That being said, I would not recommend using this to replace vegetables with meals or snacks but rather as a sweet supplement. It’s still higher in sugar than eating the veggies as part of a meal. Whole fruits and vegetables are going to be the most nutrient dense versions but life is real and sometimes we just want an appropriate alternative. I will probably keep some of the Zucchini Lemon Poppyseed bites at home for the times I’m craving something a little sweet which is usually every night after dinner – not that I will eat these daily but it’s a choice I enjoy.
What do you guys think? Have you tried them?
